What are the medical resources on the island? Is there a hospital, specialists, pharmacies, etc.?

There is about 4-5 hospitals and I recommend Wood Clinic or Cemesa. Many pharmacies and the rx are usually way cheaper than in the States. Specialists usually making rotation visits here; there are few that are full time. Check out Clinica Esperanza run by Nurse Peggy and also at Cemesa Hospital for their roster of doctors. The mainland has excellent hospitals and specialists; most USA trained and degreed.

Thank you for the responses. I will need them. Also, I might consider working part time as a nurse if I can figure out the licensure issues. Or possibly volunteering somewhere.
