We are going to be on Roatan Feb 6th through March 6th. We’ll be staying at a couple of different places during our stay. Places we’ve been before and a new place just east Sandy Bay. We have reserved a car for the week at Sandy Bay but really don’t want one if there are restaurants near enough to walk to. We have a kitchen and will stop at the store before getting there but really like to eat out every day or every other day. Any information about restaurants near?
Hi @Judy
A car is always good to visit new places, but here is a list of restaurants near sandy bay Roatan’s Favorite Restaurants - #4 by RoatanSupport
Sandy Bay is very long, so not everything is walkable within Sandy Bay- for example if you’re staying by Lawson Rock, then Papa Bones pizza would be too far of a walk, even though it’s in Sandy Bay. You mention east Sandy Bay, but a more precise location would be helpful. There’s not any real ‘center’ or ‘town’ part of Sandy Bay, restaurants are scattered throughout. Safetywise, if something is within walking distance but it’s night and it’s a bit isolated, a car may be a better option.
Salty Mango is east Sandy Bay. But realistically, you will want a car to go out especially at night. The Beach Grill, Papa Bones, the deli at Lawson Rock…all Sandy Bay but west side and again not a great walk unless you are staying on that side of Sandy Bay. Get the car is the bottom line.
Taxis around Sandy Bay are plentiful, cheap and convenient. You first may want to see how comfortable you are using them from your location. Then, just get a car for a day or two here and there during your month to explore and shop. Roacar at the entrance to West End is probably your best option. Happy travels
